Robert Goward Obituary

Robert Walter Goward, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2023, in Fullerton, California. Born on June 14, 1929, in Stoughton, Massachusetts, Robert lived a fulfilling life marked by love, humor, and resilience, leaving behind a lasting legacy.

In his early years, Robert attended high school in his hometown of Stoughton, Massachusetts. Following his education, he answered the call of duty, serving honorably in the United States Army. In 1949, Robert met the love of his life, Evelyn Francis Reilly, and they later married, sharing a love story that spanned over six decades.

Robert was a diligent and dedicated man. He worked for the local school district for 32 years before retiring. His strong will and determination were evident when, at the age of 31, he suffered a stroke. After five years of rigorous rehab and physical therapy, he returned to work, a testament to his indomitable spirit. Robert’s leadership skills were also showcased in his three-decade-long commitment to the Boy Scouts, where he served as a leader, inspiring many young individuals.

A crowd favorite in his younger days, Robert was an exceptional basketball player. He carried his love for hard work into his personal life as well, often spending time working in his yard and on his home. Never one to shy away from a challenge, Robert prided himself on his ability to do the work himself, demonstrating his resilience and independence. His interests were diverse and varied, making him somewhat of a renaissance man.

After the passing of his beloved wife Evelyn in 2013, he attracted the attention of many with his charm and wit. He had a great fondness for Mexican food, and he was known for his sense of humor, always ready to share a laugh with those around him.

Robert is survived by his son, Gerald R. Goward and his wife Minerva, two grandsons, Michael Goward and Robert Joseph Goward, and his sister, Evelyn. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evelyn Goward. His family will remember him as a loving, funny, and spirited individual who always brought joy and laughter to any gathering.

Throughout his life, Robert demonstrated resilience, determination, and a love for life that was infectious. He will be remembered not only for his hard work and leadership but also for his love for his family and the joy he brought to those around him. His memory will serve as a testament to his spirit, inspiring all who knew him to live life fully, love deeply, and laugh often.

Robert Walter Goward’s life was a tapestry of love, service, and resilience. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate a life well-lived, a man, well-loved, and a legacy that will continue to inspire. May he rest in peace, knowing he made a difference in the lives of many.
