Joseph Michael Ragazzo, known to many as Joe or Joey, passed away on June 17, 2023, in Orange, CA, after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born in Los Angeles on May 20, 1949 to Giacomo and Maria Ragazzo. Joe was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Although cancer may have claimed his body, it never managed to break his spirit or his sense of humor.
Joe is survived by his wife Kathy, son Michael, daughter Mikaella, son-in-law Brandon, and granddaughter Kai'a. Joe was also eagerly awaiting the arrival of his grandson, Kannon-Joe, who will carry on his namesake's legacy. He also leaves behind his brothers John (Maha) Ragazzo and Carlo (Linda) Ragazzo and Sandra, his partner of the last few years. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers James Cushman and Salvatore Ragazzo.
After high school, Joe joined his brother, John, to learn the trade of optical fabrication. Following their father’s dreams for his sons to own a business together, their dedication to the craft finally paid off in 1973 when they opened Brothers’ Optical Laboratory in Santa Ana, California. Over the next four decades, they expanded three times before the selling of their business in 2018. Joe poured his heart into the family business and fought for its success until his retirement.
Joe's passions extended beyond his family and work. He was an avid car enthusiast who enjoyed restoring classic cars and attending car shows. He had an impressive collection of restored vehicles through the years that he was always eager to share with others. His love for cars was well-known, as he was often sought after for his expertise and advice.
Joe was a man who embodied the words "funny," "loving," and "kind." His ability to find humor in even the most challenging situations was a testament to his resilience and a gift to all who knew him. His quick wit and loving affection will be sorely missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. It's hard to imagine a world without Joe Ragazzo, but we can take comfort in knowing that he's probably up there making the angels laugh and restoring a heavenly hot rod or two.
In his memory, let us all strive to live life to the fullest, laugh often, and love deeply. Joe's legacy is one of laughter, love, and kindness, and we can honor him by carrying on those traits in our own lives. As we say goodbye to our beloved Joe, we can't help but smile through our tears, knowing that somewhere out there, he's cracking jokes and making the world a brighter place. Rest in peace, Joe. You will be forever missed, but your spirit will live on in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 7, 2023 at Ferrara Colonial Mortuary, 351 Hewes Street, Orange, CA 92869 from 2:00PM to 3:30PM.
