Joseph Nanci Obituary

We gather here today to celebrate the life and legacy of Joseph "Joe" Nanci, a man whose presence was a blessing to us all. Born on June 28, 1938, in the quaint town of Pianopoli, Catanzaro, Italy, Joe was a beacon of hope and joy throughout his 85 years. On April 18, 2024, in Orange, California, surrounded by the love of his family, Joe was called home by the Lord, departing this world due to natural causes.

Joe's journey began in the rolling hills of Italy, where the seeds of faith, family, and hard work were sown into his young heart. In 1954, he and his family immigrated to the United States, carrying with them dreams of a brighter future. It was a move that would set the stage for a life marked by love, dedication, and service.

Blessed with the gift of companionship, Joe was survived by his two loving daughters, Eleonora "Elle" DeMaio and her husband Jeff, Anna Hand and her husband Doug; and his son, Thomas Nanci and his wife Leigh Anne. His legacy continued through his eight grandchildren, J.D. Nanci and his wife Kim, Jessie Greubel and her husband John, Collin Hand, Nikki Hand, Thomas Hand, Luke DeMaio, Nick DeMaio, and Lilia DeMaio; and his three great-grandchildren, Graciella Greubel, Thomas Nanci, and William Greubel. Joe's life was further enriched by his brothers, Tony, Adolfo, and Luciano, and his sisters, Emma, Valentina, Adolfina, and Esther. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 59 years, Dora Maria Nanci, his brothers Agostino, Frank, and Carmen, and his sister Maria.

Joe's love story was one for the ages. After meeting the love of his life, Dora Maria Briatico, in Pianopoli, he maintained their bond across the ocean. He returned to Italy to ask for her hand in marriage, and together they embarked on a lifelong journey back in the United States. Joe's career blossomed as a hairdresser, where he and Dora owned and operated their own salon for 45 years. His work ethic was nothing short of inspiring, a testament to the character of a man who built a life from the ground up.

Joe's interests were as rich and varied as the life he led. He had a passion for the stock market, finding excitement in the ebb and flow of the financial world. Gardening and landscaping were not just hobbies but a source of immense joy, as he and Dora would spend hours nurturing their garden, harvesting vegetables, and creating delectable meals and wines together. His creative spirit shone through in his songwriting and singing, and he cherished the times spent with his siblings at the local beaches.

Above all, Joe's heart belonged to his family. He was a man of simple pleasures, finding his greatest happiness in the company of his children and grandchildren. His wisdom and faith-filled advice were gifts he generously shared, especially with his grandchildren. Joe was the embodiment of generosity, always eager to lend a helping hand and brimming with gratitude for every blessing bestowed upon him.

Joe Nanci was a wise, faith-filled, and loving man, whose life was a testament to the grace of God. As it is written in the Good Book, "Well done, good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:23). Joe served his family, his community, and his God with unwavering devotion.

Today, as we bid farewell to Joe, let us carry forward the light he shone upon us. His spirit, his love, and his teachings remain etched within our hearts. Joe Nanci, a man of God, a pillar of strength, and a beacon of love, will forever be remembered and cherished. Rest in peace, dear Joe, until we meet again in the glory of our Heavenly Father. Amen.
