Obituary

Gloria Carmen Mead, 96, a longtime resident of Anaheim Hills, CA, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2023, at her new residence in Orange, CA. She was born on December 23, 1926, in Los Angeles, CA, to Rosario V. (Ray) and Santiaga (Jean) Reyes Macias. She spent her childhood in the Los Angeles area where she attended school and made memories growing up with her multiple siblings. On June 5, 1948, she married Eugene Floyd Mead at St. Mary’s Church in Los Angeles. In 1977, Gloria and Gene moved from the Los Angeles area to Anaheim Hills, where she lived for 46 years. Gloria worked in food services at Cal State Fullerton from 1986-1993 and was named Employee of the Month in July 1992. She loved spending time at home where she enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with neighbors and family.  She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and sisters to Europe as well as parts of the United States. Gloria and Gene shared 71 years together in a loving marriage until her husband passed away. Gloria recently moved to her senior apartment in Orange, where she was able to receive the loving and nurturing care needed during these past few months. Besides sharing her love, kindness and vibrant spirit with family members and her caregivers while living in her senior apartment, she also enjoyed the food, social activities like bingo and phone calls/visits from friends and family.

Gloria is survived by her sister, Rachel Lopez, multiple nieces, nephews, great-nieces/nephews, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Mead, her son Ronald P. Mead and her daughter Joan Mead Yarbrough, her two brothers Robert and Richard Macias, and her three sisters Betty Stephenson, Connie Morales and Orty D’Elia.

Gloria's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and spirit. She lived her life with grace and dignity, putting others before herself. Her memory will be cherished, and her life celebrated by family and friends closest to her. In remembering Gloria, we commemorate a life well-lived, filled with love and happiness, and marked by kindness of spirit. Gloria Carmen Mead will be deeply missed.
