Casiano Litan Frez, a figure of strength and devotion, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2023, in Orange, California, at the age of 86. Born on August 5, 1937, in the province of Ilocos Norte in the Philippines, Casiano's life was a testament to his unwavering faith, his dedication to his family, and his passion for his profession.
Casiano, affectionately known as Nonoy, grew up in the city of Laoag, where he was part of a faith-filled Catholic family. His father, Estanislao, was an engineer and a devotee of the catholic church. His children followed the legacy of three vocations: engineering, accounting/finance, and clergy. Nonoy, being the youngest of ten children traversed the road of accounting via a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the prestigious University of the East, upholding the family tradition that saw his brothers excel as engineers or accountants and his sisters commit their lives to spiritual service as nuns.
After completing his education, Casiano earned his CPA license and embarked on a distinguished career spanning 50 years in the field of accounting. With his wife, Jovita, he ventured to New York and acquired prestigious positions as a CPA at illustrious finance companies across Manhattan. His intelligence and meticulous nature made him a respected figure in his profession. He approached his work with the same integrity and commitment that he applied to every aspect of his life.
Casiano's life was rich with interests that brought him joy and relaxation. He was an ardent lover of classical music, finding solace and inspiration in its harmonies. Hours spent listening to music or watching his favorite old western movies were cherished moments of tranquility. However, the true highlight for Casiano was the time spent surrounded by his beloved family. He reveled in having them over for visits and celebrations, creating memories that weaved Ilocano memories with new American lifestyles; these would become their treasured legacy.
A man of many virtues, Casiano was notably intelligent and incredibly handy, able to address and fix a myriad of problems with ease and confidence, stemming from his father’s engineering heritage. Above all, he was faith-filled, a quality that guided him through life's trials and triumphs. He and his wife of 57 years, Jovita, shared a deep bond of love and devotion, their relationship anchored by their shared beliefs and mutual respect. Together, they attended church, a practice that reinforced their spiritual connection and commitment to their community.
Nonoy's legacy of love and wisdom lives on through his family. He is survived by his adoring wife, Jovita Frez; his son, Clifford Frez, and daughter-in-law, Stacy; his granddaughters, Lauren and Emery; and his grandson, Caden. Each of them carries forward a piece of their Lolo’s spirit, his teachings, and his compassionate heart.
As we bid farewell to Casiano Litan Frez, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and grace. His was a journey marked by an unwavering commitment to his faith, his family, and his profession. Casiano's memory will be cherished and honored by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
