Carolyn Doyle Obituary

Caroline “Carolyn” Marie Doyle, a loving, intelligent, steadfast woman of faith, left us on September 5, 2023, to be in the presence of the Lord. Born on March 13, 1928, in the sunny city of San Diego, California, Carolyn was a woman of extraordinary strength and charm, whose life story is a testament to the power of love, perseverance and dedication.

Carolyn’s youth was spent on the plains of Sasckachewan, farming during the Great Depression. It was there that she garnered resourcefulness through hardship and perseverance. She returned to San Diego to attend high school. Her vivacious personality, sense of humor and infectious laughter made her a beloved figure in her community. In the summer of 1948, she took a position as a telephone switchboard operator on Catalina Island. Her charisma and charm resonated in her voice, making her a favorite among callers, including the notable Howard Hughes. It was in Catalina that she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Doyle, while sunbathing on the beach after work. Like a page from a classic romance novel, it began when Bill  "tripped" over her and insisted that she go to lunch with him for "tripping him on purpose". They married in the summer of 1949 in San Diego, celebrating over 74 years of marriage and creating a beautiful family that was their pride and joy. Bill stayed devoted and loyal by Carolyn’s side until her very last breath, a testament of their devotion and love for each other.

Carolyn and Bill made a home in Pico Rivera and then La Habra, CA where they raised their two daughters, Denise Newey and Kathleen Amort. Carolyn was a loving mother and devoted wife. She was an avid lover of crossword puzzles, her sharp mind always eager for a challenge. More than anything, Carolyn loved reading her Bible. Her passion for her faith was infectious, encouraging her husband and family to follow suit in trusting in God in all areas of their lives.

Carolyn was a woman of many talents, but her most remarkable trait was her unwavering love and dedication to her family. Carolyn was a doting grandmother to Melissa Rihn, Sean Newey, Rebecca Cook, and John Amort. Her love extended to her three great-grandchildren, Trenton, Kaylie, and Hunter Rihn; each of whom brought immense joy and pride in her life. She was excited to extend her love to the anticipated arrival of her newest great-grandchild, Charlotte.  Her family was her world, always illuminating their lives with her love, wisdom, humor and encouragement in faith.

Although the absence of Carolyn will leave a piece missing in our daily lives, we are assured in knowing that she is redeemed and singing praises for eternity. We celebrate a life beautifully lived. A life serving as a testament to what unwavering faith looks like. A life that will continue to inspire and motivate us, just as Carolyn would have wanted. Her spirit continues to live on in the hearts of all those she knew. Today, we don’t mourn her loss, we celebrate the life of Carolyn Doyle, a woman whose life was a beautiful example of love, faith and dedication.
