Outer Burial Containers

Ferrara Colonial Mortuary carries a wide variety of outer burial containers.  Outer burial containers come in a variety of materials and styles, from simple white steel reinforced concrete to Copper, Marble or Stainless Steel.  Ferrara Mortuary offers discounted pricing for all of our outer burial containers including cremation urn vaults.

Burial Vaults

Burial vaults, also known as burial containers, are commonly used in "traditional," full-service funerals.  The vault or liner is placed in the ground before burial, and the casket is lowered into it at burial.  The purpose is to prevent the ground from caving in as the casket deteriorates over time.

Most burial vaults are made of reinforced concrete and will satisfy any cemetery requirement.  Unlike grave liners that cover only the top and sides of the casket, burial vaults enclose the entire casket.  A Burial vault is more substantial and solid than a grave liner.  It surrounds the casket in concrete or another material and may be sold with a warranty of protective strength.

State laws do not require a vault or liner.  However, keep in mind that many cemeteries require some type of outer burial container to prevent the grave from sinking in the future.  Neither grave liners nor burial vaults are designed to prevent the eventual decomposition of human remains.  It is illegal for the funeral providers to claim that a vault will keep water, dirt or other debris from penetration into the casket if that's not true.

Cremation Urn Vaults

After cremation, most people prefer to bury the Urn. While not required by law, many cemeteries do require the use of an outside receptacle, or an Urn Vault. Many choices are available, including single and double reinforced construction. Regardless of the level of reinforcement, Urn Vaults offer added protective value. The single reinforced Urn Vaults shown here are manufactured using durable plastic liners in addition to concrete, while the double reinforced are significantly stronger and include metal liners, either semiprecious or stainless steel, with bronze being the highest quality.
